This blog isn’t just about ladies fashion. Every Thursday I’m going to delve into the world of men’s retro fashion with a “One For the Fellas” post. I’m feeling particularly self-indulgent today, so I’m kicking it off with one of my all-time favorite fashion icons, the incomparable and incredibly sexy Mr. Carl Sagan.
Carl Sagan had a great sense of style. Comfortable, business-casual, and always recognizable. He could rock a turtleneck like nobody’s business, and stands as the ultimate force in geek fashion. Which is hot. Seriously.
Everyone recognizes his turtleneck/corduroy jacket combo, but the man had some other looks that were just as representative of his personal style. Leather jackets can be cheesy on some, but Carl knew what was up.
When you think of astrophysicists, fashion is probably not the first thing to come to mind. What I love about Sagan is that he knew his own personal style, and he wore it without apology. Carl wasn’t trying to imitate someone else’s style, or be cutting edge, he wore what worked for him. To me, what makes a fashion icon is recognizable style worn well. Kudos to you, Mr. Sagan. In oh so many ways.
